Cornwall : Day 2 - Fowey

first thing in the morning, me & ina went to Fowey when the tide was in. there are a few options to get to Fowey from where we were staying in Pont, Lonteglos by Fowey.
1. take the boat to cross the river - take about 5 minutes
2. drive to Boddinick (10 minutes) and take the ferry
3. walk for half hour to Polruan and take the boat/ferry
4. if u miss the last ferry or no ferry service, then  you will have to drive 35 minutes round the loop

it was quite foggy first thing in the morning and it cleared up. we crossed the river on the boat and then walked round the shops.

Readymoney cottage near Fowey was home to English author, Daphne du Maurier. she moved to Fowey in 1942 and lived in Cornwall until she died in 1989.  unfortunately I haven't read her book, unlike Jane Austen's.

Cornwall : Day 1 - The Journey

This is a delayed post on our short easter break in Cornwall; from 9/4/2014-12/4/2014.  I left Glasgow Airport at 11am and arrived at East Midlands airport at around 12 noon. my other half and the girls met me at the airport, with the bags all packed for the Cornwall trip.

it took us about 5 hours from the airport to  Pencalenick House, on River Fowey in Cornwall; just in time for sunset.

Brussels : Day 5 - Museums & home!

our last day in Brussels.. we had to check out by 11am cos next guests were coming in.  as the apartment was equipped with washing machine and dryer, I washed the dirty clothes the night before, packed and cleaned the apartment and by 10am we were out of the place.

took tram 81 to Brussels Midi/Zuid and left our bags at the left luggage centre and took Metro 2 towards Elisabeth, stopped at Botanique and walked 600metre to  Comic Museum. it was ok, not as exciting as I expected.  the entrance fee is a bit pricey for such a small place, Adult 8 Euro, 12-8 y.o  6 Euro and under 12, 3 Euro. We went to the museum shop cos big missy was hoping to get some comics but almost all comics were in French! and they are not cheap either.

after lunch, we took the Metro 2 from Botanique to Porte de Namur, walked towards Place Royale and Musical Instrument Museum (MIM). Sax 200 Exhibition was held at MIM to mark 200th birthday of the great Belgian Adolphe SAX who invented Saxophone, born in Dinnat. MIM is located nearby lots of museums - Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Margritte Museum, Royal Museum of Fine Arts and Church of St Jacques-sur-Coudenberg, all around Place Royale, which is also near Royal Palace/Place des Royale

From Porte Namur, we took the metro back to Brussels Midi and waited for about an hour before boarding the Eurostar back to London.

we arrived at 8.00pm (local time), had dinner at Yo Sushi and took the 9.30pm train back to Notts, arrived at 11.30pm; took the car from carpark and arrived home at nearly 12 midnight

Brussels : Day 4 - Grand Place..again!

on Day 3, we went to Brugge. I have written few posts on our day trip.

Day 4 was on Monday. weather wasn't so good;  weather forecast - cloudy with  light rain in the afternoon. and all museums close on Mondays, so the kids & daddy decided to stay in and I went out on my own for a walkabout and some souvenier shopping.

took Tram 93 from Baillie to Midi and then took the  Metro to Boursse. walked few hundred metres, passed Bruxella 1238 and Eglise Saint Nicolas en-route to Grand Place

and on the cobbled street with with shops selling chocolates, tapestry, lace etc

and finally arrived at Grand Place. the jazz marathon had finished and they were dismantling the stage. so at last I managed to see the city museum and maison due roi and the guild house
